Teach me to not log in for almost 18 hours. Yikes. I feel wuvvied...

The usual disclaimer: you all matter, I just don't care to fill the discussion page up with 20 different answer-posts, etc.

I'll certainly be looking into these. Actually, I think the filters you suggested are (among) the ones I was looking at. Would that I had more money, but this seems like it would work and be affordable.

As so many suggest the 2 30 gallon filter system, and it appeals to my own logics, I'm thinking I'll get that setup in some form or another. With 2 filters I'd wager I'd have enough water flow I'd not *need* a powerhead -- although it too might have an added bonus or three. A though for my next job/paycheck, perhaps.

You wanted less than 100 words, and I've already crossed that. What are *YOU* doing reading this? Go read my seperate less-than-100-word response. I'll post it right after this one. See how nice I am?

Thou art God. Though that, and "never thirst," and half a dozen other such comments have seen their way into near-every post. I mention I do/do not grok various things. I think I even said "grok" in the post over which I was asked about asterisks... How someone can grok grok and not grok asterisks, I am afraid I do not grok. Waiting is, eh?

Many kudos on knowing Jubal. He rocks mah 'fro.

(And there is a such thing as a free lunch. Go to PetsMart, tell 'em ya got Clown Loachies and ya want pest snails. They hook me up all the time. Not that the snails would taste all that good to me... But then, one of the ladies (Juliette) that gives me said snails might...)

One dinky non-fluorescent bulb, very little light (babying Clown Loaches) -- I'm SURE that's why my red plants died. Although mother had a bit more light on hers, and they died too -- a week later. I've heard red leafed plants (non-green really) are best avoided lest you "have to" have them. Red looked better in my 10 gallon's gravel, but pah. I'm digging the notion of green greens now.

Ambiguity destroys communication. "Provoking" I might be, but thought provoking, provoking one to anger/annoyance, what? This is a wide range of things, some I feel I am and would at least like to be and others I just am anyway despite real effort.

Eitherhow, I brought my own Quarter.

I don't think Fran was pondering me bedding down with my Clowns, nor do I think she was trying to "impress me"... I took it more as though she was pickin' on me some, at *least* mostly playful, giving me some hell and seeing what I'd do. Railing on my style with asterisks and funny words and such, yet using some of her own non-english terms, etc. -- perhaps seeing if I'd tag her over it, rout, or whatever. I dunno. I claim to know less about the minds of humans, particularly those I don't really know past a name and a few paragraphs, than Loaches. Perhaps that explains my whole willingness to rant/invitation for mail etc -- I'm both wanting to learn and learning more than "just fish" every day, after all.

Clarify for me on "provoking" -- mail or post, as desired. I dunno I've really discussed anything all that "deep" online this week, past Love (elsewhere), Jubal Harshaw, and a 50 gallon tank I wanna setup nicely.

I never named... my first car. But then, it's all broken down now, folks came and towed it away, and I never will see it again in all likelihood. *Sniffaroonie*. I did it wrong.

How can you tell your fish apart reliably? My clowns were "easy" to tell apart. I noted I had one faded, one not-faded. I got used to this convention, a week passed... Damn. Same colors. Which is which? So I read some, learned this was normal (I don't remember it from my childhood loaches tho), yadda. I even read about Borneo/Sumatra clowns, their different colors. They all seemed sumatran, except the pelvic fins of one had a little black triangle in them. The others looked alike. So I had "Blackfeet" and "the other two" (if only they could sing!)... This worked for a while, I got used to the convention, yadda. Now all their fins are about the same; They're fashionable this season: let's *all* get those cute black flecks! *sigh*. Now I take a different approach; I tend to be zealous in feeding, the fish likewise have their pecking order and general bitchiness on who gets how much and *now now now* -- I have a big fat leader-type, a middle-fish, and one that's noticably shorter/smaller. Likewise they've been sparring *a lot* lately (I might post on this, puzzled), and the leadership of the clown-gang may shift suddenly... Then bellies will change, and I'll still not know who was who. *sigh twice*.

Wow. You have modesta? I thought I saw your name on the 2-3 new responses to that one. Nifty. (of course I scroll here first)

Lastly, "Juli" is a fine name. Just reminiscent of "Juliette" and I sorta hope to be having dinner with her soon (something other than snails). Mom and Dad's naming you anything doesn't particularly impress me (thank them anyway I guess) -- I'm just elated to not hear you *are* Juliette, or moreover, this one. That might be embarassing. :)

I have the tank on a large counter (drawers), not what the warantee wants, but I filled it and put *my* weight on in addition, it seemed quite stable. I have not used a level on the tank, but it appears level... I wonder if my family has a level still? (we got evicted many years ago, left lots of fun stuff like that either behind/in storage)

I figured the Martin-thing out a bit after I posted that question. I even had a strong suspicion, writing it. Lazy of me, sorry.

You understand the lighting correctly, 1 light-tube. Likewise, mother has many plants and *less* light with her one tube (smaller, even proportionally smaller) and has little difficulty past fish destroying leaves. Amazon Swords are low light? I'm not sure the names of whatever else she has. I'm more inquisitive about fish than "decorations". I'm not even sure PetsMart suggests lighting for its plants. How typical tho. :)

Twice I'm warned about electricity. You folks rock. Safety first, and all that. Tho I admit I really *don't* unplug the light to siphon in water... :)

My new device is called a "Power Strip" -- let that be the happier term for it. 6 sockets, 2 in use (lighting, bubbler to encourage oxygenation/bacteria growth). I would have filters, etc, but the way I'm filling my tank I have next to no water level in it -- these will be a concern when they can actually prove useful.

Thanks, all.
