Anyone have (Sunset) Gouramis?

First off, I must appologise for the rudeness of posting this here. Second, let me add I'm irked I can find no similar discussion forums (or even much useful illness information) for Gourami's...

Er, um, I mean "I'm afraid a sick Gourami might infect the loaches in the tank"?

My mother has seemed to have the worst luck with her Gourami-friends. Gill Flukes (beaten), seemingly random deaths, etc. She now has one (Sunset Gourami) that "sits" on the bottom of the tank, generally motionless, just breathing. As far as I can discern, the fish is *not* breathing laboredly, but likewise it's doing next to nothing else, and doesn't seem to wish to move. Being a labyrinth fish, not coming up for air could be a bad thing... This fish shows *NO* sign of disease
