Snails increase since adding clowns!

What gives here? Wanting to keep the trumpet snails under control in my 55-gal. planted tank is what prompted me to look at clown loaches in the first place. Of course now that I have my four 3-inch beauties, I've found plenty of other reasons to keep them ... BUT ... so help me, the snails have tripled! Are the clowns getting too much other food? This is a community tank with lots of catfish and other bottom dwellers, so it's hard to avoid feeding the clowns while feeding the other residents. I really don't mind trumpet snails up to a point, but this is ridiculous. Help, please.
