Clown Loaches...Sort of

First thanks to advice I received here the first of the year, especially from Joe Loach. Thanks to everyone's help and my perserverance with the medication, I now have 3 healthy, happy and quickly growing Clown Loaches!

My question today is only a loach question because they live in the tank. It is really a general tank question. I need to add gravel to an existing tank as I set it up a year or so ago hastily without enough gravel. It is deep enough for plants at the back but not front as I have the gravel slanted and need to add another 15 or 20 lbs. Is it OK to just add it on top of existing gravel or will this create some sort of amonia pockets, or should I break down the entire t
