...as not to cover (and 'suffocate') all of the existing bacterial colony in the 'old' gravel. If you are going to add 15 to 20 more pounds of gravel, try adding 5lbs a day, a section at a time. I'd mix or blend it in as I went, but this will probably stir up a lot of doc, crap, and muck, so don't go to fast :)
