In Response To: Are You Ready for This?? (Nancy)

You sure this fellow just was not clowning around? ....in the nicest, friendliest manner possiable I would also love to question this fellow and then perhaps box his head (j/k) for giving them away ;P This would be the largest clowns I have ever heard of in captivity. They surpass the specimens length at Capitol Aquarium in Texas (I think), but they are over 15 years old and about half the length last I heard (if they are still there). Anybody been there recently? Makes me a bit sad also. Mine (six specimens) are in a 180 and have been for some time now. Purchased under an inch and six years old now. Only other fish in the tank are danio sp. Ph is slightly acidic, 20% changes weekly with water filtered through peat, topping off with deionized or RO water (whatever is avail at the time) live val, anubius sp., moss and crypt (but not a densly planted forest:). Bogwood, twigs and some rock with a sand substrate. Fed twice daily (once protien and once veggie on average) except for the weekend. The thing is they are almost (if that) a third of this fellows. Something is fishy and does not compute. Are you certin he was speaking of clowns and not royal clows? Sure he ment inches not 23cm (that would make them about 9 inches)? The only two things that come to mind are that daily 20% water change combined with overfeedings allowed them to attain this size in a short period of time (relatively speaking). Changing water promotes growth as will food .....but an extra 1 and 1/3+ feet (43cm)! Has me feeling a bit guilty as a provider for my friends in the water:( Is this everyones experience or .....is something strange afoot. I'm open to the idea but good heavens ...a two foot clown in 6 years :0
