Clown Loach Spine Observed

A few days ago, as I walked over to my tank, one of my four clown loaches swam toward me and extended the spine under his eye. It only stayed extended for a second or two, and then it was retracted. He didn't seem to be in the middle of any melee/fight or other aggressive behavior. It almost seemed that he was just giving it a quick stretch! I was quite pleased to see this because it is the first time I've ever observed this.

I would be interested to know if anyone else has observed this behavior. If so, does it occur often or is it a rare event?

Looking forward to your responses,

Tankbert
