My friend has six modesta in a tank with some tetras, and she's noticed that they tend to be more aggressive than clowns unless you've got a ton of places for them to hide in. Hers were truly tank terrors until she loaded the tank up with slate-and-driftwood caves, now everyone is fairly happy (although they do come out and chase each other around, they're leaving the tetras alone).

Like all loaches, they seem to have individual personalities so you can never really tell until you get them home and plunk them in with their tank-mates...
