Weather/Storm Loach

I was given two Weather Loaches (this is what I was told they were called) about eight months ago. One is brown, the other grey ('Bennett' and 'Gordan' respectively) and they both have darker spots. They are now about 7" long and I have no idea how old they are. Bennett has developed a problem in the last four weeks in that it is unable to get off the bottom of the tank and appears to be generally unhappy (can fish get depressed). He lies on the bottom, sometimes on his side (sometimes upside-down) looking up at the surface. He occasionally makes an effort to swim to the surface but collapses back after about 4 - 5 inches off the bottom. He eats occasionally but without his usual enthusiasm. So here is my question.
