Clown loaches fighting

Merry Christmas everyone !
I am at my parents house this evening, and their 2 biggest clown loaches are fighting like mad. The fish are both 6-7" long and they are fighting 'mouth-to-mouth'. One of them has got a very red looking mouth and barbels and it is difficult to keep separating them. They are in 4 ft X 15" X 18" deep tank with a number of caves to hide in. There are 5 other clown loaches in there (2" - 6")plus a couple of plecs and some harlequin rasboras. Does anyone have any bright ideas on how to stop them fighting so violently ??? Some days they are fine and bundle together, swimming up and down, and then some days they get really mad with each other. Is it likely to be a territory thing, and would changing the cave layout help ???? Thanks in
