You've made a very good point there Ed about the growth rate of clowns (and other loaches as well). IMO they're not as slow growers as people often make out. I think the reason they have this stigma attached is that they are all too often added to incorrect environments and not given the correct attention. I.e. a lot of people add them as "scavengers" or "snail eaters" or whatever and don't do much else to cater for their needs.

Given the correct environment, regular water changes and a good varied diet they can grow extremely quickly. I've read reports of young clowns doubling in size in a WEEK in the wild! It's unlikely you'll get that kind of growth in the aquarium but given the time, space and resources I'd love to setup a big tank for clowns and see what I can do...
