A test kit is an expensive collection of chemical analysis equipment that is probably worth far less than you paid for it. It allows you to find out certain values about the water in a particular tank at that moment in time and does not proffess to necessarily correspond to those values in an hours time.
It's a small window on something, not the whole picture.
The wide-screen version requires the purchase of several other expensive collections of chemical analysis equipment, which are also subject to the same limitations of intrinsic value and time-specific definition.
