Before I got my 29 gallon, I had a little 10 with a rainbowfish, a redfinned shark, 2 tiger barbs, 2 black ruby barbs, 2 peppered cories (which I lost due to treating with malachite green which is toxic to them), and a pleco and i changed 40% of the water every week with a gravel cleaning and the pH never fluctuated, the ammonia was ALWAYS 0ppm and it was clear as a bell. I had a 100 GPH powerfiter and a power head hooked to an UGFilter. The fish were not crowded since the barbs, rainbowfish, and occasionally the shark were the only ones at the mid and top level. The pleco never came out during the day, and the cories were in the planted section. The shark usually was in his hole in a ornamental rock (his territory) There was no stress and everybody got along fine. Thats just my experience with a 10 gallon and you can call it over crowded or whatever, but my fish loved it so I guess it was up to them!
