In Response To: Fintique Revisited! (Vicky)

Several good responses so far but no-one has yet mentioned that they are supposed to be temperate water fish, not tropical. I knew someone years ago who kept two in a 4 foot unheated tank on their own. They grew into 12" beauties.

While we're on the subject a bit of rumour for you all: While we were on our London trip in November the guy at Wholesale Tropicals mentioned in passing a ban on the import of all coldwater fish into the UK from continental Europe. The reason? SVC (if I remember correctly), commonly called carp disease I think. So what we asked? He then reeled off a list of "banned" loaches including the royal clown, several of the hillstream loaches and a couple of botia species (superciliaris is the only one I remember of those). So it looks like we in the UK might be in for a tough period of loach hunting in the coming months unless they can find alternative reliable sources in the Far East.
