In Response To: Fran, you ask the most esoteric questions! (Dr. Momfish)

I do have that particular wood in my 75 gal. I did not do the presoak to bleed the wood first and am still in the early stages of "tanic" water but as I told the guy at the LFS, I consider it a small price to pay for the character of this piece of wood. This log has a lot more character than the average piece of plain driftwood. Even the fish seem to think so as most of them use the underneath and back side of the log for their safe haven. The Gold Spot Pleco has not come out from under it for a few weeks now except maybe at night when the lights are off and nobody is around. I really like this log because of the many crevases, a couple of knot holes, and some insect burrows all of which I have earmarked for various plant rootings in the near future. And it really looks neat with a flexible bubble tube anchored to the gravel following the contour of the back of it.
