The white is bacteria and light has absolutely nothing to do with it. The bacteria are free floating in the water and cause it to have a cloudy appearance. What are your cleaning scheduals? How often do you change the water? What about the filter? What kind of filtration do you have? You are probably over-cleaning. My water is the ssame way, whitish cloudy. I just have to lay off on the amount of cleaning to about once a month for the filter. i was doing it every two weeks and I was doing it good!!! But the media and mechanical part (what strains the large debris out) need to be rinsed. The gravel can stand to be vaccumed about every two weeks. Water should be changed about every week. Thats what I do. Oh yea, I have a bio wheel and I clean it every month in a two week section from my HOT magnum. (EX: I clean the Magnum the first two weeks and the bio-wheel the next two weeks so each gets cleaned every 4) If you want to see what I am talking about when I say HOT Magnum, go to the link at the bottom of this page.
