Good mechanical filtration is a key to keeping water clear.

My 80 is looking great these days, very clear water. You can look through one *end* of the tank to the other and it's still clear. The key, I believe is that I have a good prefilter on my current plant filter. The prefilter gives excellent mechanical filtration -- it includes a surface skimmer and a large blue filter pad rapped around a verticle piece of PVC pipe that has holes drilled in it (Er, I guess you have to see it. Difficult to describe. :-)
