I am pretty sure that the leak occured because of a lack of enough support from it's stand, that much water is heavy. It must have started as a slow leak in the night. I staggered out to the kitchen in search of coffee in the morning and I could hear a terrible noise. I decided to investigate and discovered that it was the filter (out of water).
