I'm having loach deja vu here. Even though your Homaloptera and my Botias are not related, I noticed many of the same things - notably how the color improved and became brighter as the little fellows settled in. Also, in a kind of reverse move, my modestas were all over the tank and active and responsive to me for the first few weeks, but now that they've all gotten little territories, they only come out for food (except for the one who's always challenging this other gal's territory) - and all the activity is much as you describe!

It does look as though your little fellows are smelling the food. How do fish smell, by the way? Obviously they do. I know how they hear, which is fascinating in itself - at least for corydoras.

Enjoy your new friends, they sound great! Oh, remind me - is this river tank also 44" long, or is it different?
