My prefered method for switching fish from one tank to another, especialy with a q-tank is really simple. When I do a water change on the larger tank, I use its water to replace the water in the smaller tank. This makes tank to tank acclimation (temp and water conditions) easier for the fish. When I switch the fish over I normally add them late at night, right before lights off. This gives me some time to see if they are doing good. Then my new fish are noramlly all happy by morning and ready for feeding time.
