cool rivertank algae

I hope this is not an old question but I was wondering about that cool looking red algae in Martins rivertank. I have tried to reproduce it but I seem to mainly get stringy dark green algae and a soft brownish algae that I think are diatoms. I was wondering how long did it take for the nice algae coat to develop and how much light do you use. Right now I have 6 Shistura scaturiginas, one hillstream loach, 5 zebra danios a few platy/cycling fish. It has been up and running for over a month now last week I put in the shisturas and over the weekend I put in the hillstream. So I know it still has some settling down to do. Wow this was suposed to be a quick question sorry about rambling on.
