Striata coming of age?

I'm not sure if anyone recalls, but I was very concerned with my Botia Striata's reclusiveness. Now, it seems to be the exact opposite, and I'm stumped to know what has changed...
For almost three weeks, I thought that it was dead, as it never came out of its cave. Now, there isn't a moment when the little critter isn't flapping around and swimming with the others. My only thoughts would be that maybe my Striata is identifying with the Black Ruby Barbs in the tank (as clowns do with Tiger Barbs), or the little tyke just grew up!
Either way, I'm thrilled, but really, really confused. Nothing has changed in the tank, no new tank mates....he's been around for over 5 months (2 in the barb tank).
Any thoughts?
p.s. Does anyone else here think that the Striata looks like Fruit Stripe bubble gum?
