nigs and sids

Found some more information: Definitely both belong to the subgenus Hymenophysa and the so called "modesta-group" within this subgenus. Therefore both should have three pairs of barbels. To make matters more complicated: I checked the article in DATZ again and the author said that sids from certain parts of the Mekong river grow to 15 cm! He has a pic of two of them and they clearly vary from the typical proportions of a grown up sid as shown in the book by Loiselle. They have a fully developed chain pattern. Hmm, since he mentions nigs in his article he was obviously aware of their existence, so I don`t think he mistook grown up nigs for sids. So maybe there`s a third sp which is not yet described out there and (unknowingly) already in our tanks.

:) Hans
