Trying again at clowns!

I'm going to buy three clown loaches today. I have set up a quarantine tank just for them and I think they will stay in it for at least two months. I am filtering with a little peat to lower my pH and add a little acidity to my otherwise alkaline water. A guy I know who's pretty knowledgeable on fish care told me to add one tsp. of aquarium salt for every five gallons for them. This helps to relieve stress and improve gill function ? Does anyone find any of these methods objectionable? Thank you for any advice in advance !!
