In Response To: Spaghetti Kuhli (Rick)

The article was a lot longer than I remembered, so here the main details:

Apart from describing the Pangio kuhli (the regular kuhli) they also decribe

Pangio anguillara formerly Acanthophthalmus vernicularis, also known as Cobitophis perakensis

Pangio mariaum formerly Acanthophthalmus mariae but could be really pangio filinaris

Pangio myersi which might actually be pangio kuhli myersi

Pangio panga formerly known as cobitis cinnamonea or perhaps Apua fusca

then they give this "idiot's guide"

- if they are dark grey and small, with very small eyes think P. alcoides - if they are small, long and wormlike, with reddish-brown or peppered back and clear bellies, think P. anguillaris - if they have nasel barbs, cuniform spots on dorsal with a yellow background, think Pangio cuneovirgata - if they are wormlike , but larger, uni-colour such as brown with a darker lateral line and nasel barbs think Pangio doriae - if they are small, reddish-brown, rather high in the body, a spotted dorsal and nasal barbs, think pangio filinaris - if they have irregular bands of colour on a yellow background, a dark mark on the caudal fin and a moderate size, think Pangio kuhli or P. malayana - if they are large, have regular dark squarish bands on an orange backgroud with a black caudal, think Pangio myersi from Thailand - if they have a moderate size, are reddish-brown and translucent, think Pangio oblanga - if they are chocolate coloured with small dark dots, or svelte and a unicoloured sort of cinnamon, with eight barbs, think Pangio pangia - if they are dark, reddish-brown, with very small dark spots on the lateral line and back, "et aux narines en courts tubes coniques" think Pangio piperata - if they well defined dark squares separated by fine yellow spaces and there are no ventral fins, think Pangio pulla - if they have clear zones on the middle of dark dorsals, sometimes running into each other and a violet or magnenta colour, think Pangio superba - if they have eight barbs and lateral spots on body and dorsal, a marbled caudal and any variant of colour, think Pangio shelfordii

Sorry for any errors in translation;

Anne
