Murder is defined as the killing of one human being by another (and some assorted points about deliberateness, etc.) Animals can't murder each other, animals can't murder people, and regardless of what animal rights activists say, people can't murder animals. It's the definition.

Sounds like your friend can't deal with the reality of nature. As you said, the loaches just wanted lunch!
