It is not for irregularities in the stand at all..it is for irregularities in the tank! If you get a 55 gallon tank, try tipping it upside-down and putting a a meter stick across it...it's not very straight. The glass actually bends when you put all the water in to the shape of the stand...that's why I sanded my tank stand down and made sure it would fit the tank. The less bending the better!
