Aha! The presence of the observer affects the experiment! :-)

There may be a good reason for the good behavior when you are in front of the tank - if they are killing for food, as opposed to territorial issues, etc. then why kill for food when an easier source of food (you) shows up?

I'm partly kidding, partly serious. Is this something to consider?
