Ah, yes, the presoak. Also good for frozen food - my fish (loaches, discus, and tetras) are so greedy that they will eat the food still frozen if I don't warm it up in a bit of tank water, first. I like your idea about doing the presoak with hard bits of food. Discus and angelfish chew their food - you can watch them do it -chew, spit, bite again, chew, spit...and tetras do it, too - but I've wondered about the loaches, so I'm going to start soaking anything hard that they might be able to swallow whole. Now, shrimp pellets are big enough that the loaches can't eat them right away, so they get a chance to soften while the loaches grab them and carry them around, but something like tetra bits - which they seem to like the taste of - should probably be soaked. Thanks for the reminder that I should do this.
