Clowns and Live Plants?

I finally upgraded my lighting and got a dual hood to fit two bulbs in to get some live plants. I bought a huge, im talking 12 inches tall, amazon sword for 3 bucks and when I came home from school yesterday to my horror the 6 baby clowns I have in the tank put so many holes in the plant that the leaves looked like swiss cheese. What plants can I keep with my lil clowns? I also got some java fern and a anubias barteri nana along with the sword that is rapidly become very holy. Any comments and suggestions are welcome!!
