It is called the Aral Sea by tradition only. The body of water is actually the Aral Lake which is the fourth largest lake in the world and is enclosed in the central part of the Turanian Plain, fed by the Amu Darya and Syr Darya which are two of the largest rivers of Central Asia.

But although it's definitely a freshwater fish it may just be the largest in Europe/Asia as I have failed to relocate the original source of information that said it was the largest in the world. They're big suckers anyway :-)
