I'm envious that you live in an area with wild loaches! I really don't think the current is as important as clean, cool(65-75F), well oxegenated water. Mine do like to "dance" in the output of the powerhead, but they were happy before I put them in this tank. They tend to spend most of there time in the areas with slower current, however. I hope this is helpfull. Good luck!
