I am not an expert aboyt loaches, but from what i have read it seems that what matters most with loaches is that it is the aquarium set-up and you are "Suposed to" but dont need to, have 2 rock 1 on each side of the tank. Is the rainbow bigger? Also another problem can be how many you have 2. I have a 10 gallon tank with 2 and only 1 lava rock and i also have 2 Turquouse RainbowFish so maybe you just need to get some more retreats.
