Terrorist pleco?

I have a plain 'ol ordinary pleco, about 7 inches long. I came in the other day to see it rasping a fish into its mouth. It didn't let up until that whole fish was gone! I had noticed a zebra danio that didn't look entirely well. I suspect it died first, then the pleco had lunch. Have I not been making sure it gets enough protein? It usually dines on algae disks and the tank gets flake, shrimp pellets and treats. This kind of meat-eating pleco seems odd to me. Might the pleco become a danger to my kuhlies and other small bottom feeders? Thoughts?
