Being relatively new to the world of loaches (read, have had 6 clowns living happily amongst the other denizens of my 300L tank for the past 4 months) I was a little surprised to find one of my recent additions (4 more clowns as of earlier today) suffering from what looked like, to put it simply, death.

A little background. The fish in question is the smallest of the pack but there have been no obvious signs of bullying. What went on at the LFS is another story although he and all the others looked healthy. Ammonia and nitrite are not present in the tank at any detectable levels, and the nitrate is neglible. The pH is a little on the high side but rather than introduce chemicals into the mix I've let it ride.
