But there *are* people that swear that they killed their fish when they added table salt to their aquarium(s). (I think that's where the myth may come from that iodine is the cause -- it was probably due to the YPS). One was on the JAWS Board a few moons ago (last year?). I believe when questioned about her salt, that it *did* include YPS, and that it was rather fast acting.

"Wintek" and "Dan" were very much up to snuff on the chemical changes that YPS makes when combined with water. (Wintek where are you?!!!) It turns into a strong acid (I want to say sulfuric acid here, but I'm unsure).

Even in "minute amounts," I would rather avoid it. We switched our table salt. :-) I love salt on lots of stuff!

Like you, I have always (and will continue to use) iodine on fish wounds. I net the fish and apply it with a Q-tip directly to the wound. I never had a fish die because of this process.
