A while back I asked if anyone knew if it was safe to hand-feed larger botias because of the possibility of being bitten.
Now I know. My modestas come after food so eagerly that you'd think I never feed them. When I introduce food - especially bloodworms, OSI "Ocean Stars" cichlid pellets, or Omega "First Flake" (those are their favorite foods) - they rush to the surface and literally "snap" up the food - the sound it makes when they "hoover" their choice morsels is quite loud, and when several of them are doing it at once, it makes quite an impression. Each fish snaps up a piece, takes it off to its cave, and comes back to grab another piece.
Well, I didn't get out of the way in time when I added bloodworms yesterday
