Another type of sandblasting substrate that looks nice but may be to sharp for loaches is low grade garnets. I had some about five years ago and it looked great but that was in an african ciclid tank. I wish I could remember if it was sharp or not. I tore the tank down to move to across town and a friend who was helping me move poured insecticide into the gravel because "There were bugs in it".
