clown loach & ich

I am so confused after reading the info here regarding ich! I have new clown loaches (2) that are showing early signs of ich (scraping on ornaments and a few spots on tail). I have gouramis also and one may have spots on its fins. I don't want to medicate and start a whole chain reaction of disease and yet I feel I need to do something. I am really new at this and have lost clown loaches before to ich. They all became covered with spots and then died one at a time. When I asked at the fish store what to buy to cure it they said Rid-Ich which I purchase but have not yet used. They said they use it on their tanks, but when I looked at their clown loaches they were covered with white spots?? SO - - help! Can someone tell me exactly what to do? I would appreciate it. Does heat and salt (how much and what kind) work or do I need to use medication? If I need medication, what is best? I have 2 clown loaches, 3 gouramis and 2 picus (?) catfish. Thank you!
