yellow finned modesta

I read somewhere that the yellow finned blue loach is just a color variation of the modesta. Is this true? I've had one for a couple of years that is approximately 4-5 inches long with the powder blue deep body and darker spot near the caudal, but it has yellow fins. This always perplexed me because in the stores modesta always have orange to red fins. Is the variation a gender thing, regional thing or just a genetic fluke that pops up every once in a while like a cat with extra toes? Another difference is that this one is extremely shy, but I think that is due to it being the only modesta in the tank. At the store where I used to work the modestas tended to be a little bit nasty. But of course, I probably would be too if they stuck me in a little room with 20 other people and no hiding spots.
