I had the same thing happen with two of my kuhlis and my aquaclear 300. One died and one made it. I cover the intake with a spare aquaclear filter. I slit a deep hole into one end (not all the way through) and slid this over the intake. It needs a rinse once a week or so and acts as a pre-filter. This has solved my problem. I was given this tip on this board and I am sure it has saved my beloved kuhlis. Good luck
