More new tank questions!

Does anyone know a good way to make sure your airline doesn't collapse when it's under gravel to an airstone/bubble wand. Maybe I'm not doing it right, but last time I tried to do a wand, the gravel seemed to close off the tube and restrict air flow and if I don't put it deep enough the fish (and vacuuming, etc) pull it up. Any suggestions?

And: loach homes. I just realized that my loaches hang out in the spot between the corner of the tank and the heater more than I realized (I think so no one bothers them while they sleep). When I set up the new tank, they won't be able to do that. Any suggestions of what to get them so they don't get stressed (more so) in the new tank?
