I know it's not blue-green algea because I had that in another tank. Two SAE's cleared that problem up pretty quick. I think that this is the black beard. Does Erythromycin kill live plants? I have a very large piece of java fern that is covered in this stuff. Can Erythromycin be used as a dip to supplement stepped up maintenance instead of adding it to the tank? I've tried to clean this stuff off by hand, but I just end up ripping the leaves. If SAE's eat it, I may just have to move the plants into the other tank which already has two.
