According to the Baensch Aquarium Atlas, the key is in the shape of the tail. Male tails seem to be more rounded on the ends and females are pointed at the tip clown loaches that is :)! Hope this bit of info helps you. It is hard to tell which are which because it takes so long for them to reach full size and sexual maturity. Good Luck!
