I haven't tried the microwave but people here have said it works. Go ahead and experiment and let us know if it makes the zucchini sink! If your worry is really "does the zucchini have to be cooked or raw to be safe for the fish?" then no, there isn't a safety issue here. As far as I know there is nothing that needs to be "cooked out" of these veggies to make them safe for fish.

As with human food, don't overcook or you'll cook out the nutrients, is all.

Making it sink so the fish can get at it seems to be the only reason to do anything to the zucchini. And maybe it does make it more palatable to the fish, since my modestas turned up their barbels at raw zucchini but Ed's ate all of his parboiled zucchini - and we got the zucchini from the same source.

Have fun with it! I gotta try it again today, I think - parboiled this time.
