I'm in Northern California - opposite US coast! We just finished having a heat wave - 115 degrees F - I was trying to keep the A/C to a minimum to do my part to conserve electric so we wouldn't get a power outage, but we got one anyway!

My heater hasn't been needed for a while, either.
