about to overwinter

I have ordered a coldwater thermometer and it will come in a few days. In the meantime I am allowing my plants to grow, away from the snail and loaches who would eat and uproot them, in the overwintering tank.

My plan is to replace a third of the tank water each day with ice cold water. Of course, I will not let it get too cold. I am a little short on unheated garages :).

If anybody has any suggestions, I would appreciate them before the loaches go under the substrate.
