weather loach hibernating??

I have a freshwater tank with 7 or 8 fish and one weather loach, who I have had for about 2 years. He is a big lad, about 6 inches long, and has exhibited all the classic weather loach signs in the past - draping himself over plants, darting around like mad at feeding times, leaping out of the tank and being found on the carpet some hours later, etc, etc ....

About 3 weeks ago, I noticed him "missing" (he was, of course, buried in the gravel somewhere) but he has remained under a rock ornament, and doesn't seem to want to come out at all. I can't see anything noticeably wrong with him, but he is no longer apparently interested in eating (although he poked his head out yesterday, but then disappeared). If I lift the ornamental rock up, he will sit there (on top of the gravel
