Soak the pots before you cut them. Cutting the pot moist is an old handyman/woman trick :-) Makes less mess and a neater cut, although it can sometimes take slightly more elbow grease. This is just for sawing with a hacksaw; don't do it for the scoring-with-a-nail-and-breaking technique.
