In Response To: native African loach anyone? (Brodie)

There are a couple, but the loach you have heard of is probably Nemacheilus abyssinicus, or Ethiopian Loach, which is a native of Ethiopia, Africa. There are supposedly several other members of the genus Nemacheilus from Africa as well, from Lake Tsana, but I can't find any info on those.

The spined loach, Cobitis taenia, can also be found in northern Africa.

None of these are suitable for a rift lake aquarium though. For "clean-up" duties you'd be better off with a catfish
